Simple rules for a curious app.
By installing or using NatureLog you agree to these terms. This draft covers the development app and its configured sync service. Public release terms and operator details are not yet finalised.
1. NatureLog is preview software
Please read this first
The current version is a development preview. The website uses illustrative replies. The development backend integrates AI for text, photos and audio, but live identification is still being validated and requires a configured service and your AI-sharing choice. Features may change, break or disappear between versions.
2. Your device journal
- No email address, password or registration is required. An anonymous session key on this device controls access to your journal.
- There is no cross-device sign-in or account recovery. If the session key is lost, the journal cannot be recovered through an email address.
- You may delete your device journal from Profile. Deletion is permanent.
- You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country) to use the service.
3. Your content
Everything you add — messages, photos, recordings, notes and places — remains yours. You give us only the permission needed to store, transmit, display and process that content so the app and the service can work for you, including AI processing when you enable AI sharing and use a configured service. Manual observations do not require AI. You are responsible for having the right to share what you upload.
4. Acceptable use
Please do not:
- upload content that is illegal, infringes someone's rights, or contains other people's personal data without permission;
- use the app to harass, harm or deceive anyone, or to disturb wildlife and protected places;
- attempt to break into the service, overload it, scrape it, or bypass its limits;
- resell or commercially exploit the service without our written consent.
5. Not expert advice
Look, enjoy, stay safe
NatureLog is for curiosity and personal notes. Nothing in the app is a reliable identification of a species, and nothing is medical, veterinary, foraging, safety or legal advice. Never eat, touch or approach a plant, mushroom or animal based on what the app says. Observe local rules and protected-area regulations.
6. The service
- We may change, suspend or discontinue features or the service at any time, with reasonable notice where possible.
- Manual observations and drafts can be saved offline. Sending AI messages and syncing require an internet connection and an available backend; cached media remains available until cleared.
- We may set limits on attachment sizes, storage or request rates to keep the service healthy.
- We may remove content or suspend device sessions that violate these terms.
7. Disclaimer and liability
The app and the service are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, loss of data, or any harm arising from reliance on content in the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
8. Termination
You can stop using the app at any time and delete your device journal from the app. We may suspend or terminate access for breaches of these terms. Sections 3, 5, 7 and 9 survive termination.
9. Changes to these terms
We will update this page when the app or the service changes. The date at the top shows the current version. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms. Review this page again before using a public release.
